Speaking recently, Nasty C, born Nsikayesizwe David Junior Ngcobo, revealed a surprising detail about the song’s origins. “I made this song about five years ago, maybe six,” he shared. “Back then, it was just a chorus, and that was enough for me. It did exactly what I needed it to do at the time.”
For years, the record remained unfinished. The Durban-born artist admitted that he only completed the song around eight months ago, after letting it sit quietly in the background of his life and career. That long pause, he believes, ultimately worked in his favour.
“The time it took to finish that song really helped me,” Nasty C explained. “I went through a lot, plenty of highs and plenty of lows, and all of that gave me something real to say when it came time to write the verse.”
What started as a simple, personal hook has grown into a fully realised anthem about endurance, faith, and pushing forward. The involvement of the world-famous Soweto Gospel Choir adds a powerful spiritual dimension, lifting the track into something communal and deeply moving.
