Is Kid Cudi a Rat? Examing Both Sides After His Diddy Testimony

Kid Cudi shocked many people in the hip-hop community when he took the stand and testified against Diddy in the music mogul’s sex crimes trial on Thursday (May 22). The Ohio rapper testified about being violently harassed by Diddy after the Bad Boy Entertainment founder found out that Cudi was dating Cassie in 2011. He offered details about Diddy allegedly breaking into his home to intimidate him and also told the jury he believed Diddy set Cudi’s Porsche ablaze with a Molotov cocktail.

But does this make him a snitch?

At least one popular rapper thinks Cudi is a rat. On Thursday evening, Young Thug shared the since-deleted post: “Dam cudi a rat lol.” If we are going by street codes, Cudi could definitely be seen as a violator. Cudi took the stand and gave in-depth knowledge of crimes to the authorities in an official court case. His words could help Puff be convicted and sent to prison, possibly for life. And that, in some people’s eyes, is enough put snitch on Cudder’s jacket.

However, the real conversation about snitching is more nuanced. Snitching in its purest form involves telling on someone with whom you committed a crime in order to avoid jail time. In this case, Cudi was allegedly the wronged party. He also only confirmed information that has been public knowledge through Cassie’s 2023 lawsuit against Diddy.

On top of that, Cudi was more than likely subpoenaed to testify by court order and is a full-fledged civilian who has never claimed to be in the streets or participate in gangsta activity. Should he really be held to the same standard as a “gangsta” rapper? It’s almost absurd to think he should be.

No matter what the naysayers say, Kid Cudi seems content with his decision. On Thursday afternoon, he shared a heartfelt video message thanking fans for their support.

“I’ve been seeing all the love and support. I just wanna say thank you so much, man,” Cudder said in the video. “People been hitting me up the past week, just checking in. And even today. It really means a lot to me, man. You guys are the best. I love y’all. This is a stressful situation. I’m glad it’s behind me. I love y’all. Big love.”
