iFani’s ‘Shake’ On The Verge Of Gold Certification 13 Years Later

iFani’s ‘Shake’ On The Verge Of Gold Certification 13 Years Later. In an era where music careers can vanish as quickly as they appear, South African hip hop heavyweight iFani is experiencing one of the most unlikely comebacks of the year. His 2013 banger “Shake” from the classic album Lengoma is surging toward Gold status on Spotify.

The track is sitting just shy of 900,000 streams and climbing fast, all without a single radio spin, TV play, or mainstream media push.

The artist himself broke the news on Instagram with pure disbelief and gratitude. “SHAKE: Lengoma is about to reach Gold. Abantu keep posting it kuTikTok. Don’t know why in 2026, 13 years later. But hey, ndiyavuya!”

For iFani the journey to this moment has been anything but straightforward. After parting ways with Sony Music, his catalogue was pulled from major platforms, leaving fans scrambling. During the height of the Covid 19 pandemic in 2020, messages flooded in from supporters begging him to re-upload his music. At the time, he was chilling in the township with no money or means to make it happen.

The pleas never stopped. Through 2021 and 2022, as South Africa shifted heavily to streaming services, the requests grew louder. In 2023, iFani made the move to Johannesburg. He signed a distribution deal and finally dropped the first instalment of his Quadrant series. Around the same time, a producer introduced him to Tswyza, who pitched a wildly creative idea: an entire interview conducted through rap verses.

“I love the idea! Let’s do it,” iFani recalls.

The pair shot the episode in 2024. When it dropped on YouTube in 2025, it marked iFani’s official re entry into the public eye. Streams that had been languishing around 100 suddenly jumped to 1,000, then 100,000. But nothing prepared him for what happened next.

Out of nowhere in early 2026, “Shake” exploded. It rocketed past 500,000 streams, and then the TikTok floodgates opened. Beautiful dancers, everyday creators, and nostalgic fans began flooding the platform with their own takes on the track: lip syncs, energetic challenges, and pure vibes. “Yhooo! Some of the most beautiful girls were making these videos,” iFani posted, still in awe.

As of now, “Shake” is knocking on the door of the 1 million stream Gold milestone on Spotify. And unlike his earlier major label days, this resurgence is 100 per cent organic: fan-driven, TikTok-powered, and completely independent.

“No radio airplay, no TV plays, no mainstream media,” he emphasised, echoing a sentiment once voiced by fellow artist Nota. “But now I can see, through these videos, that I made an impact that Sony can never remove.”

In his heartfelt Instagram message, iFani extended deep thanks to every content creator keeping the song alive. “Enkosi to everyone creating content ngalengoma. It was a struggle. But thanks to you, that struggle is OVER.”

He even has a special request for fans spotting “Shake” videos on TikTok: drop a comment saying “iFani thanks you!” to show love to the creators bringing him back to life.

Looking ahead, the momentum shows no signs of slowing. iFani revealed that his 3rd Quadrant is already signed to a label and primed for a chart run this year. On his birthday, he plans to finally upload the long-awaited 2nd Quadrant, featuring the singles “Ayadelela” and “February.”

For a song released when many of today’s TikTok dancers were still in primary school, “Shake” proving it still has legs in 2026 is a powerful reminder of music’s staying power and the unpredictable force of social media.

As iFani put it, the struggle is over. Now it’s time to Shake all the way to Gold. Ewe, ndibuyile. The people’s champion is back, and this time, the people are carrying him.
