Lil Wayne Assembles His Dream Rapper Football Team

Hip-hop’s biggest football fan may just be Lil Wayne. The Green Bay Packers loyalist is diehard to the game, so it’s only right he’d have his dream rapper football team at the ready, which he revealed during a recent interview.
Lil Wayne Picks His Fantasy Football Team, But It’s All Rappers
On April 21, Weezy F. Baby connected with the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter and his cohost Boog on The Travis Hunter Show to discuss the rapper’s forthcoming album, Tha Carter VI, which arrives June 6, as well as his love for tennis and if he’d ever cut off his dreads—the ultimatum Wayne was given is wild. During the convo, Hunter asked the New Orleans MC to reveal which rappers he’d select for a 7-on-7 football team in the video below. While some of Wayne’s picks were in line with the company he keeps, others may surprise you. Last year, he did something similar with Pittsburgh Steelers player Cameron Heyward.
“OK, no positions yet, so, Jay-Z,” Wayne chose as his first pick. “He on the squad. Jay on the squad. I don’t know if he coach or something. We need a veteran.” Wayne and Jay-Z have a complicated history that included some shots thrown in the past, but they have since-settled their issues. Hov even helped Wayne pay back a $14 million tax debt he once owed to the IRS.
One of the obvious choices Wayne would put on his team is someone who was signed to Weezy for much of that artist’s career. “We need a proven star, a proven superstar,” he shares. “That would be my man Drizzy, Aubrey Graham, ’cause he could play both sides of the ball now. He could sing and rap, you know what I mean? He can sing.” Drake signed to Lil Wayne’s Young Money Entertainment in 2009, and stayed with the label until he made a direct deal with Universal Music Group around 2019. The Toronto rapper has continued to praise Wayne though they no longer have an official business relationship.
The next selection left Weezy a little stumped. “Now we need somebody that can move, so we going with…. Ohh, you say rappers though, right?” he asked Hunter again. “I’m going with… now this ain’t the mover. This ain’t the guy that can move or nothing like that, but I’m going with ’Kiss. I’m going with ’Kiss. I think you see ’Kiss in that back field and get scared, yeah. I think you be like, ‘I know that ain’t Aubrey and ’Kiss. What Jay doing back there?,’ you know what I mean?” Jadakiss and Wayne have collaborated many times over the years, with 2015’s “Kill” being the last time they joined forces on a track.
His football squad full of rappers isn’t done yet. There are four more he’d add to round out the artists that would bring home the win.
